Referred to Dr Owa by my GP practice and he held surgery on a Saturday morning at my surgery in Littlehampton. Checked ears and removed wax from right ear to expose infection inflamation which was a little painful. Subscribed medication and booked revisit for 2 weeks time to see if infection has gone, then shall be referred for hearing tests. Very efficient.

Absolutely charming gentleman! Put me at ease immediately with his friendly but professional manner. Explained everything in detail including treatment and procedures. I couldn’t have asked for more!

I had stapedectomy by Mr owa and i had the worst experience of my life . Basically my life was ruined and wasnt even able to work for more than 4 months after the operation due to serious complications . He had to do 2 surgeries as first one caused ear drum perforation and also he changed the prosthesis length as he told me that it was too long . After all of this , i lost most of my hearing and on top of that still struggling with balance issues . I feel like drunk 24/7 and constant tinnitus etc. all i can say is if you want to go surgery route for otosclerosis, definetly do your research and go to best doctor who specialise in this are.

Response from Mr Anthony Owa

So sorry that the surgical outcome was not as good as expected. To be honest as I believe I mentioned during the post operative consultation. I am disappointed that the outcome was not satisfactory although I did mention that there was always a risk of hearing loss moreso that in over more than 20 years of doing this procedure, having done more than 200 I have had 6 patients including yourself with sub optimal surgical results. Three of these have occurred over the last 8 years. This compares favourably with national figures for this procedure of between 85- 95%. I have also taught trainees to the procedure. I have recently done the procedure and improved the hearing in 2 patients since you were discharge though I appreciate this may offer you little comfort for your current situation. Whilst I may not be able to improve you hearing something can be done about the balance which I believe was discussed during the last consultation. Once again I apologise that best efforts did not result in a satisfactory outcome for you. Best regards.
